Sumo Merriment

It seems Melli was sentenced to three years on probation on Thursday after he pleaded no contest to a drunk-driving charge in an incident that made some bigtime headlines for his anti-Semitic tirade. We all know that Aussie Smartipants Mel was spotted and pulled over by the Los Angeles County sheriffs deputies last month because he was speeding all over Malibu. And we all know how sacred Malibu is.

Mel's attorney entered the plea on his behalf before Malibu Superior Court Judge Lawrence Mira (in an agreement with prosecutors) that keeps our Mel out of jail. Our Mel was not at the proceedings...how typical!

So here's the deal he gets...the judge ordered the 50-year-old Mel to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings five times a week for 4-1/2 months and three AA meetings per week for the remaining 7-1/2 months. Our hero was ordered to enroll in an alcohol abuse program for three months and was fined $1,300. With the gobs of money he has...they should also have made him purchase tickets to the Policeman's Ball...they still do that right?

Our Mel volunteered to make a public service announcement on the hazards of drinking and driving and volunteered to immediately enter a rehabilitation (cough) resort...uh...center. His comments on the night of his arrest released the hounds from Jewish groups and many of the Hollywood elite (they just think they are) of the entertainment industry...whatever that's worth.
