Israeli soldiers celebrate their return from Lebanon after the ceasefire.

Israel begins its search for a scapegoat...

Israel's Prime Minister came out fighting yesterday hours after the start of the ceasefire, proclaiming that he took sole responsibility for the action against Hezbollah. Ehud Olmert faced down an angry 'special session' of the Knesset to answer critics who attacked his handling of the four-week war against the Lebanese militia with growing demands for an inquiry into the military and diplomatic conduct of the crisis. Olmert said that he would personally oversee efforts to secure the release of the two Israeli soldiers whose kidnap let to the war, but urged people to be patient.

Binyamin Netanyahu, leader of the opposition Likud Party, responded, “It must be said honestly, there were many failures. Failures in identifying the threat, failures in preparing to meet the threat, failures in the management of the war, failures in the management of the home front,” he said. Olmert and his Government face a rocky ride as the fighting subsides and reservist soldiers return home.

“I think politically he’s in trouble,” Professor Ephraim Inbar, director of the Begin- Sadat Centre for Strategic Studies, said. “The whole war was mismanaged, in setting political goals and military strategy. It’s clear it was no great victory. Hezbollah fired 4,000 rockets and were only stopped by a ceasefire.”

The jury is still out as to whether this will work...may peace be upon them all.

Netanyahoo... {shakin'head} His "leadership" has been as much The Problem as Hezbollah and Iran and Syria.

That last 'toon really nails the situation right now, eh.

How ironic it is that that iron fisted hawk, Sharon, would have never launched this ill adviced adventure to Lebanon. He knew how it feels to get stuck in mud over there but poor Olmert had to prove his questioned toughness thus leaving himself vulnerable to pressures of some of his hawkish Generals. I don't quite know who the biggest winners are yet but it's quite safe to say that it wasn't Israel and certainly not poor Olmert. Bye bye mister Primeminister! Long live a new one!

Once again Sumo, you have the best cartoons! I think that someone should pay for the latest military incursion. Besides the people of Lebanon.

I hope that last cartoon is not true.

Gosh, with all that talk of a failed gubment, I got confused for a minute and thought he was talking about Bush.

that last cartoon is so true!
i'm really sick and tired of the islamic militias in the area playing the victim. they go bomb israel constantly and israel turns the other cheek. then when they take a step too far they sit there bitching that citizens are dying and that the response is too drastic and OH! what will we DO????? first step, guys, stop trying to destroy a sovereign nation, they don't like that. tends to bring out the bombers that were made for the purpose, not to walk and talk and then die with a poof.

I agree with Mary, just switch out the countries and the names and it's the same.

Where did all these war mongers come from? When did peace become an old fashioned word.

While all sides are decalring victory, I (and probably the thousands whono longer have a place to live) are wondering what the hell it was all about.

Nothing like a war that accomplishes nothing to brighten up your day. They're all terrorists if you ask me.

Crapweasels!

oh ah wait a minute ah who and what we were talking about? I thought they meant this gubment? ( last cartoon too funny but scary....)
