Oh that's so sad about Emily Perez. Yet another casualty of the war in Iraq.

I wish someone would have worked hard, very hard to disuade Emily from becoming part of the war machine. Hindsight.

Hard to believe after avirtually admitting Bush was breaking the law by using torture, instead of prosecuting him as such (from the same people who went after Clinton for perjury) instead they changed the law to protect Bush's ass. What does the NSA have on these people?

How many other lights like Emily's have been snuffed out prematurely in George Bush's unnecessary war? How many more will be?
Tragedy upon tragedy upon tragedy.

Its unbelievable and I think this behavior is just so outrageously over the top...its just crazy, is what it is.

It sounds like her life was one of real compassion, real empathy and an understanding of what it means to serve others. It is a shame she had to die in Iraq, though she probably died doing what she believed in.

Considering there aren't many upper-class families who have kids in Iraq, or maybe very many upper-middle-class families who do, I think what Charles Rangel did when he introduced his resolution to reinstate the draft (1/8/03) was very appropriate. Of course he knew it would fail, but it did well in pointing out that many privileged Americans will not be willing to sacrifice their own lives or the lives of their kids, as long as there is a poor, working class there to raise kids to do that job for them. While I like the idea of an all-volunteer military, I think this has led to our military not being a very representative cross-section of our society.

So, did Emily Perez grow up with hardships? Where I'm going with this is, if that was indeed her background, I have to think that had she grown up without hardship she might not have felt a need to join the armed servies. Lots of our young people who grow up in less than desireable circumstances may view the military as a way to learn a skill to help them get jobs once they are out, or else as a way to earn college money for after their discharge. I don't know if this is what Emily Perez was thinking or not when she decided to join, because she apparently could have gone to any college she wanted, but graduating from West Point is a feat which requires considerable skill and intelligence. It's possible she could have viewed it as more of a challenge than simply going to college. So maybe she didn't view the military as her only alternative, but rather as a career she geuninely wanted to pursue.

If college educations were made more available for more Americans, it is possible that there might not be as many of our kids joining up. Maybe this is why the Bush administration wants to make college less affordable for more of our young people, so that more of them will view the military as their only choice. After all, if the goal is to create a worldwide American empire, our military certainly needs more footsoldiers.

Anyway, she was a good American. Her loss is a loss to us all.

I thought the 2 links would get the blood boiling and then the sad mode would kick in for Emily. This admin takes us to the extremes all the time. May peace be upon Emily.
