So Here's What Mr. Jimmy Has To Say About Our Georgie...
President Jimmy Carter... 1977-1981Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said the Bush administration had eroded America's global influence with its conduct in Iraq and by condoning the torture of terrorism suspects. "He said "They have redefined torture to make it convenient for them."
The things that most of us and the world assume to be torture, the administration claims that it is not torture. Mr. Jimmy has been a leading voice on global human rights issues. I'm sure you've also heard of his "Habitat for Humanity." A very worthy thing there.
Mr. Jimmy apparently was "filled with admiration" for the Republican Senators John McCain and John Warner and former Secretary of State Colin Powell for their strong effort last week to block Georgies policies on the treatment of suspected terrorists. The White House and the senators continue to talk (hammer) looking for a compromise. Now this is where they lose me.
I don't think there is a compromise to be had. The law is the law...the Geneva document states clearly in my mind its intentions regarding treatment of humans. Now a president such as our Georgie could be an entirely different thing of course. He deserves different treatment for being such a class-A knucklehead. But I digress...Mr. Jimmy goes on to say...
"We've lost the support, trust, confidence and admiration that we've had for generations," adding the administration 'has stonewalled so they can continue to perpetrate this illegal punishment." Mr. Jimmy says they have subverted facts (proven), and subversion of the law is now becoming more and more apparent. And this was in referrence to the repeated appeals of court rulings concerning the treatment and legal rights of prisoners at Gitmo by the administration.
Rather like cornered RATS if you ask me! Like so many of us in the REAL world...Mr. Jimmy has called treatment of detainees at Gitmo an embarrassment and disgrace. Americans are less safe since 9/11 because Georgie mishandled the Iraq war and failed to promote peace efforts between Israel and Palestinians. I couldn't agree more.
Those two factors, he said, "combined to stir up additional animosity and threats of violence not only against us but against allies like Great Britain." Mr. Jimmy said he would encourage Democrats overseas to vote in November, when the party must pick up 6 Senate seats and 15 House seats to reclaim Majorities. And of course WE know that our Georgie will stay the course.
I personally cannot believe that Georgie will not be meeting with the Iranian President...what harm can there be in that. Is George afraid ol' Mahmoud will strap on some explosives and take him out? Come on! So I guess there won't even be a lower-level contact with the Iranian delegation at all. What nincompoops! It makes them look weak not to meet with him. Of course we know who would win the round with words don't we?! So Mahmoud goes back to Iran and tells his people that old Georgie wouldn't meet with him...and they of course see that as not only weakness...but and insult that he wouldn't even try to may some talkspeak with him. So all the effort appears to be on Mahmoud's part (trying) and George just brushes him off.
That my friends...is not diplomacy...it's a death wish. It's insane, he's playing with our lives in this situation now. Jimmy was right...this guy wouldn't know foreign policy if it jumped up and bit him on the ass...that he's always falling on anyway. Oh this is good..."Our government now has a strange and unprecedented and pervasive policy of not speaking to anybody who doesn't agree with us in advance on controversial issues. So we close the door, we go into a closet and pout," Carter said. And this too..."So we don't talk to Iran, we don't talk to Syria, we don't talk to the Palestinian government, we don't talk to North Korea, we don't talk to any leaders around the world who disagree with us and this is where the problems arise," he said. Thank you Mr. Jimmy Carter for those words of wisdom! This guy racked up a Nobel Prize in 2002 for his foriegn diplomacy...and he should have had it much sooner...and perhaps more that once.

I've always liked him...he had/has a good head on his shoulders and thought of the nation 24/7...besides being a better speaker to the masses. People (other nations) didn't think of him as a joker...much like the respect they had/have for Clinton.

I have always said the Jimmy Carter was too smart to be president. He wouldn't play the political game so they tossed him out. He's still a man of his word and who allows his wisdom to lead the way.

Jimmy Carter is the only President I have ever met and both times in our short conversations he impressed me with his deep sense of who he was and what his place in the world was. He didn't wear his deep faith on his sleeve and lived his belief everyday. I consider my two meetings with him to be high points in my life despite the fact that they were just a few minutes long. Jimmy Carter was a victim of circumstance during his Presidency and we would all be a lot better off if he had had a longer time in office.

Jimmy Carter is a statesman, not a politician. He's thoughtful, intelligent, and a true humanitarian. I had the priviledge of running as an alternate delegate to the Democratic Convention for him (Illinois 10th Congressional District), and met him briefly while he was campaigning in Illinois.
So here's my question: HOW in god's name did our country devolve into the disaster that we've become?

I think it is a shame that Carter may be remembered mainly for the failed hostage rescue attempt. Since he left office, he seems to have become what America should be... honest, critical, thinking, helping, serving. I think he was that way while he was in the White House too, but alas, the spinners, the spinners...

Carter knew that they would never be release with him in office. A plan was devised to get them released by making them afraid of Reagan. Reagan played along and played a familiar part "the cowboy making bold threats". You'll notice that it worked...as soon as Reagan was in office, they were released becasue Iran "just knew" that he would make good on his threats made during his campaign and attack them. Carter and his staff knew better than go gloat on this one, but Iran played right into their hand. It was the Carter admin's plan to play it that way, so nothing was done behind Pres. Carter's back.
