Boxer Says No More Rollbacks...
The Democrat poised to take over the Senate environment committee promises a "sea change" from six years of Republican inaction on global warming and says she expects Congress to send Bush legislation to start curbing greenhouse gases. In the interview, Boxer also promised to end Bush administration rollbacks on environmental rules if they are not supported by science.
"Any kind of weakening of environmental laws or secrecy or changes in the dead of night — it's over," Boxer said. "We're going to for once, finally, make this committee an environment committee, not an anti-environment committee. ... This is a sea change that is coming to this committee."
Her chairmanship will be an abrupt turnaround from Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., whose last hearing Wednesday as chairman will be devoted to his view that the news media have fanned alarmism about global warming. Inhofe, who calls global warming a hoax, blocked attempts in his committee to regulate carbon dioxide.
Well, here's hoping she'll be able to get this thing going and on a timely basis. We can't sit back anymore and listen to Dub's excuses or his cutbacks from the budgets. He'll budget us right into the ocean. I keep thinking of the money so sorely spent on Iraq when it is so needed elsewhere in a painful way.

After they fix the environmental rules in the U.S. could you send someone to Canada to fix ours.
We are doing less about Global Warming than you are..

Yay Boxer is coming out swinging (sorry, couldn't resist it even though overdone) for the environment. I'm glad to hear that someone is, I'm surrounded by people (not my family) who think Global Warming is a hoax by the liberals! What a horribly successful piece of propaganda THAT has been!

Sumo I hope so, I hope so. I hope that something can be done- before its too late. Its a crime what these people are doing. The rollbacks and inaction, always in the name of jobs.
WHy cant we create jobs from renewables? WHy cant we find ways to protect both business, profits, AND people? Why do they think its always some kind of choice?
Hey Sumo you can post your views in Blue Republic forums too, crosspost, etc. ANd link back to your blog. The forums are found by a link at the top of the homepage, and there is an FAQ section on the left sidebar that helps with things like links, posting pictures, etc. You can also add your link in the "add link" section in the sidebars so people can find your blog.
I will try to get to some of the other matters today, but wanted to chime in on this post because my fingers are SO crossed on something being done...

Let's hope this is so. We have lost 6 precious years where we could have been making serious improvements in our management of our little spaceship. We need to make up for these wasted years and quickly.

Boy, here's hoping they really DO start some environmental planning. We've realistically got about half a century to put on the breaks before the point of no return, right? Otherwise, at that time, even the Iraqi War of the 2000s will look like small peanuts.

It's incredible! Who would have thought just a few years ago that Three (Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein) of California's most liberal and seasoned women politicos would have the chance to kick some serious Elephant but in D.C. and help steer us back to some legislative sanity.

Surely, you people must be able to see that your domestic oil production is going to increase dramatically. This time new deposits of the black gold will be ready shortly after you burry fossiles such as Bush, Cheney, Perle, Limbaugh, Wolfowitch, Bolton et al. Heck, Big Dick alone will yield more than you can burn.

No more secrecy or laws quickly passed at 2 AM without allowing the "lawmakers" to read it first?
THE HORRORS OF DEMOCRACY!
